Walk the Line

May 2015 saw the opening of a new attraction in London that will appeal to art lovers and ramblers alike. The Line is a series of three connected walks in East London beginning in North Greenwich. Sculptures have been placed along the route, many by household-name artists. The Line sounds like a decent idea but there are some issues with the walk not the least of which is signage! Wembley

800px-Wembley_Arena

Being a football and music fan I have found myself a frequent visitor to Wembley for events at both the stadium and the arena. I have always cringed at the area around the venues because Wembley has frankly always been a less than picturesque part of London and it has been hard to avoid wondering what tourists must think when they find themselves in Wembley High Street making their way to an event.  It is a shame that our national stadium has such an unattractive location or that some of the millions spent on the site couldn’t have been directed at the surrounding region.

Get Out of London Theatre

450px-The_London_Palladium_Theatre_2

West End shows make for a wonderful evening out but they are now very costly. It is possible to get your hands on discounted tickets through schemes like Get Into London Theatre and via special offers but it is never going to be cheap. This makes it all the more annoying when your entertainment is ruined by the behaviour of certain members of the audience. I have been attending shows for more than 40 years and I am sure that standards of behaviour are slipping. I wish that these idiots would get out of London theatre! Continue reading

The Curious Incident

As a frequent theatre goer I was horrified by the recent ceiling collapse in London’s West End. Without warning large volumes of debris fell on the unsuspecting audience of the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at the Apollo Theatre. As yet no cause for the collapse has been identified making it a curious incident at the Curious Incident! All joking aside the episode is rather unsettling not least because I am in possession of tickets for the show. Continue reading

Millions of shoppers flood into the city in search of their festive food and gifts and there is a wonderful atmosphere about the place. If you are making a trip to the capital there are also plenty of seasonal attractions to enjoy if you can pull yourself away from the shopping. London really comes alive at Christmas and here are some of the things you really shouldn’t miss. Continue reading

Drowning Ducks!

674px-London_Duck_Tours_vehicle_on_Victoria_Embankment

After a busy day on Sunday I did not see or hear any of the national news until late in the evening. I had only switched on the TV in anticipation of Match of the Day and was shocked to see pictures of a Duck Tours amphibious vehicle on fire! The vessel was clearly on the Thames in London and the hairs went up on the back of my neck as I have taken a trip with London Duck Tours on several occasions. Continue reading

Flamenco in London

763px-Shawl_Duet

Flamenco probably conjures up memories of holidays in the sunny Spanish costas, lots of sangria, castanets and late nights in the resort bars. Although the culture of flamenco is definitely most popular in Spain, the appeal of the music and dancing has caught on in all parts of the world, and if you know where to look, you can find music, dancing and the flamenco vibe in London too.
